Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On April 22nd 2024 Gordon J. Hutchinson  passed away at the age of 61 in the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon Saskatchewan with his wife and son by his side.  With an ever positive outlook Gord battled an aggressive cancer that affected his tongue, neck and lungs for a year before passing.

Gord was born in Listowel  Ontario to Claire and Betty Hutchinson September 13th 1962.  He was predeceased by his parents, and older brother James Hutchinson.   Gord is survived by his wife of 40 years Shirley Livingston and son of 34 years Ethan Livingston.   He will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings Lynda and Wes Alexander of Palmerston Ontario, Bill and Jane Hutchinson of Gowanstown Ontario, Pix Martin of Conestogo Ontario, Marie Hutchinson of Kitchener Ontario, Ed Hutchinson of Durham Ontario and Dave and Laurie Hutchinson of Purple Valley Ontario.

Sport was Gord’s first love.  Hockey sense was first nature to him and combined with his strength he was a stalwart defensemen.  The Drayton community team will always remember his slapshot, which he scored from center on multiple occasions with.   He was a dedicated family man to his wife Shirley and his son Ethan.  Fatherhood was a priority for him and his efforts were never unnoticed in the community.  In the winters he could be found with ice all through his beard flooding the local outdoor rink to perfection.  He made sure to pass down his love for sport to Ethan coaching hockey and soccer for several years.  Christmas’s were for watching the world juniors, cheering on the Leafs or contemplating how to improve Ethan’s hockey team.  While summers were full of underdog victories at the soccer field followed by icecream if possible.  Very fond of all of his nieces and nephews, it was his dream to see the kids and his greatest joy to see everyone two weeks before his passing.

Gord was an extremely dedicated and hard working man who was very good at many things.  Early in life he worked with concrete building pools, septic systems, driveways and basements.  Next he tackled landscaping truck driving and snow removal in all aspects.  After the birth of his son Ethan he and Shirley moved to Moorefield where he worked for the Murray Group fostering the trade he would become renowned for, welding.  A sense of inventiveness (inherited from his father) and creativity along with an unwavering work ethic always defined him at work.  Afterwards he began his own business welding where he mostly repaired farm equipment excelling in fabrication.  He could fix anything.  Gord was liked and admired by his work friends always inspiring a sense of “awe” from what he could accomplish.

The next phase of his life brought him across the country to Fort McMurray.  After working in the modern day gold rush in Fort McMurray Gord found a property in Yellow Creek Saskatchewan to call home.  It was here Gord and Shirley focused their efforts to turn their property into a piece of paradise.

As per his wishes there will not be a funeral for Gord.   The family asks that instead of flowers or donations to them that you make a donation to Jumpstart so that more kids can develop Gord’s passion for sports.  We have also provided a few links to two of Gord’s favorite songs that we wanted to share with you. The family thanks you sincerely for sharing in their sorrow  and your thoughtfulness is appreciated and will always be remembered. Gord led an honest, clean, hardworking life.  He always put others needs before his own even in his final days.
